Effective Work Breaks for Entrepreneurs

Sometimes as entrepreneurs, we can forget that we need to take work breaks to unwind for the benefit of their mental and physical health. Here are a 4 tips to helping you unwind throughout the day.

1. Short Effective Work Breaks, Throughout the Day

A lunch break alone is not sufficient to keep your mind and body invigorated throughout the workday. Breaks are an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and will help you to be more productive during your work time. Make a conscious effort every 60-90 minutes to step away from your work.  Perhaps a quick walk around the office, or step outside for some fresh air.

2. Change of Scenery

Do you often feel as though you are not actually refreshed after taking breaks at work? If the answer is yes, the issue could be where you are taking your break. As a general rule, your work area should not double as your break area. Getting up and moving to a different location gives your mind a cue to reset. Coworking places like Colony Workplaces offer a variety of ways to change the scenery. We asked owner of Colony Workplaces, Bill Cody, what differentiates his space from the rest.  He told us that the most valuable aspect of Colony is their waterfront space with outdoor seating along the water.  He goes on to tell us that a change of setting is an important aspect of the their success.

3. Energize Your Body

The human body was not meant to be sitting in a chair for most of our waking hours. Even simply walking around the block to give your muscles some stimulation can make a big difference in your workday and your overall health.  Take a walk along the Halesite waterfront and take in the sites.  This will not only relax you physically, but mentally too.

4. Find a Stress Relieving Activity

Take the time to find a relaxing activity that can be done during your breaks. Activities such as reading, meditation, stretching, or doing crossword puzzles have been proven to invigorate the mind. Find a simple activity that will help you to distance yourself from the stresses of your workday for a few minutes. Just make sure that you aren’t spending your break with more time spent staring at a screen.

We hope that these simple tips will help you to take more meaningful, restful breaks at work.
